Photo of a Lesser elaenia, made by Steven Wytema in Suriname in 2005. The bird is most easily recognised by its voice, as it closely resembles other elaenias, a difficult family. It is uncommon near J.A. Pengel airport, Zanderij and has only once been reported from Phedra and Sipaliwini, that is all for this bird.
Each small square indicates the observation of at least one (group) of these birds, the medium ones at least 4 observations on different days and the largest ones 10 or more. The color of each square indicates: blue for coastal area, yellow for savanna and red for rainforest.
